site suggestions from a teacher

I currently work for a company that teaches chess to children. An average class ranges between 5-25 kids. I am trying to incorporate lichess as much as possible into my workplace. I love this site, have been a long-time user, and want to see it succeed! With this all this in mind, here is my current feedback:

** most important**
1) Within the 'Analysis Board', you should be able to edit and delete variations. (copying a transcribed game from paper to lichess' analysis board is just horrendous, as you cannot make any mistakes or they will become the mainline.)

** also very important**
2) You should be able to finalize a game within the 'Analysis Board' (perhaps have it act as an imported game). Then you can get the computer analysis of the game, and maybe more importantly, a link to the game.

3) The ability to create databases of games (private and public). Currently I have my own spreadsheets with links to lichess games, but streamlining this within lichess itself would be fantastic. This functionality I believe would skyrocket lichess into 'undisputed best chess website'.

4) A better profile interface. I hear one is on the horizon. Currently searching for a particular game you played or imported is just too difficult. Starring games helps - but as in (3), a database system to structure your games / positions would be fantastic.

Additional Comments:

The export to pdf is FANTASTIC. good work whoever implemented that. I use it frequently.

I have noticed that on occasion the export to pgn/pdf has been non-responsive.

I would love to use the 3d pieces more frequently, but they all look kinda the same, and a little ugly.

Thanks,
very good post!
Since I'm planing on using lichess for working with kids as well I'll add some notes/ideas later.
Ok, here are some random ideas:

1. Edit/Delete variations within the Analysis Board – yes please!
2. Local engine support – check variations on the fly
3. Nice to have: Share an Analysis Board with someone – both can enter/show variations, like on the ICC for instance
4. Access to student’s detailed Tactics training history (maybe Opening Training history as well)
5. Chat, Takebacks and MoreTime during Simuls should be possible
6. Private Simuls would be nice
7. Private Tournaments would be nice

What you're looking for is a chess database program. Scid is a good one, or use Chessbase if you don't mind non-free software.

Use the right tool for the right job. These programs have most of the features you're mentioning and have successfully been used for teaching for years.

Lichess to me is more about live online play. I mean, it never hurts to fantasize about features and who knows, maybe one day these will make it to the site but for now you can't do better than using an offline database.
^ That's right, agree with mietk . You have just described a chess database software. Try scid it's free and open-source.

scid.sourceforge.net

I'm using a chromebook, so everything has to be online for me. Currently I use chessmicrobase.com for game and position storage. It's a completely fantastic website, but struggles with touchscreen integration (unlike lichess).

I do know what you mean about picking the right tool though! Although, I must say that (databases aside), the Analysis Board on Lichess really does need a re-working. Even trying to copy famous games from books is amazingly tedious here.
The analysis used to be very nice here. It would highlight the best move so you could spot things instantly. Now it's very hard to use with the inaccuracies, mistakes, and blunders confusing and difficult to tell which is for white and which is for black.
